A babysitter, not a nanny
"My end goal is to create a safe place for children. I want them to enjoy their childhood and experience as many things as possible."
She would rather be called a babysitter than a nanny, and she is very clear about the kind of work she wants. Long Saturdays. Full days. The weekend hours where you actually get to do something with the minis instead of watching the clock. Her week fills fast, uni on Tuesdays and Thursdays, an online tutorial Monday at 5, work from 2:30 on Wednesdays and some Fridays. Saturday is always free.
She found us the way most of the good ones do. She told a friend she wanted to get into nannying but had no connections. Her friend said five words back: The Nannying Network, look it up.
The perfect day
It would start off with a healthy nutritious breakfast to get them going for their day. I would love to take them to the zoo where they can see all the different types of animals. Fun yet educational, and it gets them out of the house and off devices.
Then in the afternoon a quick play on the local playground, then home for downtime with colouring, reading or drawing, which leads us into the night for a movie.
Off duty
Cheerleading. I have been doing it since year 7 and before then gymnastics and dance. It has taught me how to work in a team and problem solve to make things work.
I love performing on stage and going to competitions with my team. It makes me really happy and gives me a sense of purpose outside of regular life.
Play, properly
By following their interests and turning everyday moments into imagination. Forts out of cushions, silly songs, crafting with recycled materials, turning a walk into a scavenger hunt.
Play is not just fun, it is how kids learn best.
Where she is from
I also love the beach. Swimming, or even just a casual stroll around Palm Beach. I am from Church Point, so living around the water is a dream.
I am 19 and studying a Bachelor of Arts and Education, primary, at Macquarie University.
On repeat
Definitely High School Musical. I grew up watching it and it never gets old. The music is so catchy and the characters are lovable. I still watch it sometimes to this day.
Snack of choice
DIY fruit skewers with a drizzle of chocolate or yoghurt dip. Fun to make together and mostly healthy. Anything on a stick is instantly more exciting.
Story time
The Day The Crayons Quit. I read it at my after school care job. Every page is a different character, so the kids read a page each and act out the emotions.
